Waiting Well

The waiting room is probably not our favorite place in earth. Magazines line up the coffee table nearby, while the television gives off white noise. We’re tempted to people watch, but it feels weird when they catch you staring. Sometimes it seems like time is wasted when we could be doing something “more productive.”
In life, the waiting room is not often fun either, especially when we’ve been believing God for someone or something for a long time. There are many times when it seems like we’re just “wasting time.” In our book, Worth the Wait, we tell the story of how we prayed and waited for each other for almost a decade – and in those years, we didn’t even know each other yet. We were living at the opposite ends of the world, believing that somehow God will make a way for us to be in a godly marriage.
During the waiting season, one of the Bible passages that we held on to was Isaiah 64:4 (NIV):
Since ancient times no one has heard,
no ear has perceived,
no eye has seen any God besides you,
who acts on behalf of those who wait for him.
See, our God never wastes the waiting period. We may not see a way right now, but it does not mean He does not have a way. Isaiah exhorts us to wait with expectation because we know God is acting on our behalf as we wait for Him. And at the end of that waiting season, we will see that what God has for us is greater than what we have hoped for or imagined. So be encouraged. Wait well knowing that God has never stopped working things out for the good of those who love Him.
Will the wait be easy? Not necessarily. But will it be worth it? Absolutely!
