Presence Can Change Lives

On our third Sunday for our series, “Community,” we talked about what “breaking bread” means and how lives are changed around the dinner table. In the age of the technology, eating a meal together seems like a far-fetched concept. Everyone is hurried. A bite or two will do and out the door we go for the next agenda.
But what happens when we pause and take time to notice?
Notice your spouse with whom you said “I do” many years ago – take time to hold hands and hear each other’s story. Or your parent who held you close during a scary, stormy night – take time to say “thank you.” That child who’s bursting to tell you the next big thing of the day – take time to sprawl on the floor and just look at that face who made you laugh and cry at the same time. Or maybe that friend you haven’t talked to in a while – take time for a coffee or lunch. And most of all…your Father in heaven who longs for you to be still so you can hear how much He loves you – take time to open Psalm 139 and realize how much you are loved.
Whatever that may be, it does not involve just sitting and waiting. Act today. For presence can change lives, even your own.
And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do,
but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near.
- Hebrews 10:25
