God Has Not Abandoned You

No, I will not abandon you as orphans—I will come to you.

- John 14:18 (NLT)

Ever felt like everyone else is too busy to listen? Or you’re just one who never wants to burden somebody? It is in moments like this that we feel like orphans. Alone. Hopeless. Abandoned.

But Jesus says something different. He promises never to abandon us as orphans. He assures that He will never leave us nor forsake us. And He fulfills that promise through the Holy Spirit. He is not the spooky figment of imagination. He is real, gentle, and loving. He is faithful to lead us and guide us… that is if we ask Him to.

Some may say, “But I don’t have it all together.” Good news! God never waits for us to have it all together before He comes. In fact, it has always been the opposite. He comes to save, heal, and deliver you and me.

Remember how the world was formless, empty, and dark in the beginning (Genesis 1:2)? Yet in this dire situation the Holy Spirit hovered. The next verses paint a beautiful picture of fullness, purpose, and light. Friends, this is who the Holy Spirit is. Maybe you find your life formless, empty, and dark. Cheer up. The Holy Spirit is as close as your next breath. He has never abandoned you as an orphan. And as you ask Him to comfort, guide, and lead you, wait and see life of purpose He will paint before your eyes.
