New Hope Every Morning

Today, as we went to pick up some groceries, I was stunned by the empty shelves.

I've been hearing about people's panic-buying, but I guess I just wasn't prepared to see it firsthand. The tension in the grocery store was so palpable as folks picked up what's left of the meat supply. I hate to admit it, but I felt fear slowly creeping into my heart.

What do we do when our own supplies run out? Who do we turn to for help?

As I mulled over contingency plans & worst case scenarios, the LORD gently reminded me of a promise we've held on to during the tough times: Because of the LORD's great love

we are not consumed,

for His compassion never fails. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness - Lamentations 3:22-23

The word "compassion" in Hebrew paints a picture of a mother's womb cherishing the fetus within. So much nourishment and care are in that womb that the fetus can depend on being provided for everyday. That little baby doesn't need to be in fear, for each morning brings the assurance of being cherished.

As I shifted my focus from my fears to this promise, I realized that like that baby, I can rest secure that my Heavenly Father cherishes me daily. In a season when it's easier to give in to fear, I know I can draw hope from our God, who promised NEVER TO ABANDON me.
